So, over the summer us girls -- there are no guys here yet -- are getting together to do women's studies. It's going to be awesome and fun because we're going over women of the Bible! Olivia and I talked about it some and I mentioned that back in Clemson for women's midweeks we went through women of the Bible. So, it stuck and that's what we're doing. Well our theme scripture comes from Proverbs 31(where else, right?!):29-30. Well, I decided, 'hey why not just study out Proverbs 31.' It was one of my brighter ideas. So, it starts in verse 10:
A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.
I stopped there and couldn't go further. What does noble actually mean? (this is the cool part, get ready!) Well, if you type in "define: noble" into Google it will come up with this definition: belonging to a hereditary class with high social or political status; aristocratic. (I always want to type aristocat because of the movie). Initially, I was like wait, that doesn't make sense, but then I had and "aha!" moment and things started to click. By being a woman of God, or being a part of God's kingdom we belong to his hereditary class, his social status, his level so to speak. So, here, a wife of noble character -- or a woman of noble character because I, for one, am not married nor am I anywhere near that stage in life -- is a woman of God-like character; a woman who holds herself to God's standards and not the world's.
Then you get to the second part. She is worth far more than rubies. Everyone knows that rubies are extremely expensive -- sometimes more expensive than diamonds. I did a little research and the most expensive ruby ever auctioned in the US went for $3.63 million for 15+ ct. That's over $277,000 per carat. That's a LOT of money! I know that no woman enjoys putting a price tag on herself, myself included, but to think that the woman being spoken of in Proverbs 31 is worth way more than $3.63 million is an insane thought. She is rare just like the ruby, probably even more rare, therefore her value doesn't have a limit.
I'd like to find the wife of noble character within myself, wouldn't you?
Love,
Liz
