11 January 2012

Not there yet.

Next Friday, January 20, I will be packing up my things and heading for the coast. I don't have a job. All I simply have is a place to live with an awesome and understanding roommate, Katie Sawhill. Soonish I will have another roommate when my dog, Marty comes up to live with us. I decided to blog about my time in Wilmington, NC and the adventures that I know will be had during my time there. I'm not sure how long that will be... at least a year, probably more. Who knows where God is going to lead me. All I know is that his mission is clear:

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. -- Matthew 28:19 (One of my favorite scriptures)

Why am I going to Wilmington, you ask? Well, it's actually quite simple and I'll explain it all in as little a nutshell as I can. I was baptized on April 18, 2010 into God's family at the Clemson Foothills Church. It was the best day of my life. I continued on with the faith -- hitting many bumps and conquering many mountains -- and came to the summer before my last semester of college at Clemson. Well, not knowing what to do with my life, I went out on a whim and signed up for the one year challenge (OYC). I knew I wanted to stay in the country and preferably in the south east. Auburn was the only church in the south east on the OYC list. Well, they didn't contact me. The places that contacted me were: China, Maine, Texas, and West Virginia. I was leaning towards WV until my wonderful minister, Jarrod Robinson, came to me one Sunday morning and said, "I know where you should go." To which I replied, "Where?!" His response: "Wilmington, NC." I promptly ran around the room with Hanifa about 5 times freaking out and completely excited. On top of that Kevin and Elizabeth Thompson from the Athens Church were going to be the leaders. Woot Woooooot!!! As an added advantage, I've wanted to live in/move to Wilmington since I was... ohh, about 7 years old -- the first time I visited there. So, there was no doubt in my mind that I was headed to Wilmington. From there I prayed for open doors. I was actually getting ready to fast, beginning on some Sunday in September, when that Friday before Katie called me and said, "Hey, I heard you're coming to Wilmington -- want to be roommates?" HALLELUJAH! Answered prayerrrr!!! Open door number 1! I also got my parents blessing/assurance that I could go. The only task now is to find a job so that I can stop sucking my parents dry of funds. My adventure really begins January 20th. Prayers would be nice.

Love,
Elizabeth
